Age Concern Ibiza & Formentera, Sept 2014 Newsletter

We are now into September and hopefully the weather will cool down and it will be more comfortable for everyone. The summer seemed to begin later but when it arrived did so with a vengeance. Soon all will be tranquil and the island our little haven.

IN MEMORY

AC Estepona death of volunteerIt is with great sadness that we have to advise the passing away of George Monks. George, who lived alone, remembered us in his Will, for the help he received from Age Concern. Phil Ives, husband of Diane, peacefully following a long illness bravely borne. Irene Stoker formerly of Cala de Bou, again following a long illness. All of whom have been beneficiaries of Age Concern one way or another. We send to their family and friends our prayers and thoughts at this difficult time.

NHS CHOICES UPDATE

NHSYou can no longer apply for a residual S1 (formerly residual E106) which previously provided temporary healthcare to early retirees moving to another EEA Country.

If you have moved abroad on a permanent basis you will no longer be entitled to medical treatment in the UK under normal NHS rules. This is because the NHS is a residence-based healthcare system. Most people will also not be entitled to use a UK-issued EHIC card to access healthcare abroad.

If you already have a residual S1 this will not affect you – it will continue to be valid until its original expiry date. If you are a UK state pensioner this will not affect you – S1 forms will be issued to state pensioners.

WINTER FUEL PAYMENTS

GOV UK WEBIt is proposed to stop the winter fuel payments for people living in warmer climates from 2015. According to the Government web site, www.gov.uk, you can still claim for 2014 if you were born on or before 15th July 1952 and you live in another EEC area, and you have a genuine link with the U.K. This information was posted on the website on the 12th May 2014.

Therefore if you are not already registered for the Winter Fuel Allowance, you can find the claim form and more information at www.gov.uk.
